The Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama

‘I’m No Healer. It’s Been Proven’

New Delhi, 22, November 2009 (By Jaya Shroff Bhalla, Hindustan Times) – “I am not a healer and if somebody says, they are wrong. And now it is scientifically proven.” The 14th Dalai Lama, considered the incarnation of the god of compassion by over five million Tibetans, sounded downright human as he talked to reporters after inaugurating a metabolic and bariatric surgery institute at Max Hospital in Saket on Saturday.

I am a Hopeless and Lazy Professor: Dalai Lama at DU

New Delhi, India, 21 November 2009 (PTI) - "I am a hopeless professor," this is what Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama said at a function at the Delhi University, sending the entire audience into peals of laughter. The Dalai Lama's remark came after Vice Chancellor of the University introduced the spiritual leader as the "most liked visiting professor" of the premier institute which "many people may not know." "I am an honorary professor here...but in reality I am a hopeless professor because at first I find no time to carry on with the duties of professorship and secondly, I am lazy," the Dalai Lama said. The spiritual leader was addressing the valedictory session of a three-day conference on Tibet's history and culture attended by scholars and students from 17 different countries.

India Very Important Country In Asia: Dalai Lama

New Delhi, 20 November 2009 (IANS) - The Dalai Lama Friday said here that India should be seen as one of the most important Asian countries. He also stressed that while he no longer considered himself the temporal leader of Tibetans, China had “revitalised” him as a politician. “For many years, whenever I was in Washington and Europe, I always told leaders that when you think about Asia, you must think of India too,” he said, answering a query on the recent US-China joint statement that China should help in the stability of South Asia.

MUST READ : BOOK

The Art of Happiness in a Troubled World applies Buddhist tradition to twenty-first-century struggles in a relevant way. The result is a wise approach to dealing with human problems that is both optimistic and realistic, even in the most challenging times. How can we expect to find happiness and meaning in our lives when the modern world seems such an unhappy place?
His Holiness the Dalai Lama has suffered enormously throughout his life, yet he always seems to be smiling and serene. How does he do it? In The Art of Happiness in a Troubled World, Dr. Cutler walks readers through the Dalai Lama's philosophy on how to achieve peace of mind and come to terms with life's inherent suffering. Together, the two examine the roots of many of the problems facing the world and show us how we can approach these calamities in a way that alleviates suffering, and helps us along in our personal quests to be happy. Through stories, meditations, and in-depth conversations, the Dalai Lama teaches readers to identify the cultural influences and ways of thinking that lead to personal unhappiness, making sense of the hardships we face personally, as well as the afflictions suffered by others.
